Fujifilm Optical Division Blog

The first half of the year has flown right by, and we are thrilled to have been able to introduce some fantastic new lenses to our family of optical devices during these frantic six months. We’re even more thrilled with the response shooters from around the globe have had to our PL85-300 Cabrio lenses, as well as the XA99x8.4, XT17sx4.5BMD, and XA55x9.5!

Many of these customers were able to get a first-hand look at these lenses at NAB. The traffic at Fujinon’s booth this year was excellent, in part as a result of the increased show attendance (92,414 over last year’s 91,565), but also due to the excitement surrounding the new products we unveiled. We had the latest in Fujnon’s PL Mount, EFP, Studio, and ENG lenses for broadcasting, sports, digital cinematography and production applications, including an enhanced version of the Emmy Award-winning “Precision Focus Assist” technology.

The new products we showed at NAB were well received by show attendees, but the excitement and buzz surrounding them didn’t stop in Las Vegas. Don’t take our word for it! Here are some of the things people have been saying about some of our new lenses on Twitter.

Clearly, the PL 85-300 is a stunner. The second lens in the Cabrio series, customers are impressed with its size and speed. While the PL 85-300 is similar in size and weight as the PL 19-90, its longer focal length makes it ideal for shooting documentaries, nature and wildlife, and car commercials, among other demanding production scenarios. The pre-production PL 14-28 wide angle that was shown as a “sneak peak” also had that “wow” factor everyone is looking for. It’s being viewed as a great lens for Steadi-Cam use, as well as hand-held and interior shooting.

The XA99x8.4 Ultra Wide has been seen by many mobile customers; the wide angle is really catching their interest, and the fact that the new optical stabilization is faster and wider range than the XA88x is tremendously appreciated by shooters. Part of the reason the XA99x stands out in its class is because it combines high-performance imaging and a long zoom reach with that ultra-wide angle.

Our XT17sx4.5BMD, which you NAB visitors will remember seeing at the JVC booth, has also been well received. It features full remote control for videoconferencing, weather cams, educational, and studio robotic applications. Simply put, it is the right focal length for a 1/3” remotely controlled lens for studio use, at the right price.

NAB has always been a show that showcased new and emerging technologies. This year was no different, including in our booth. We displayed a preliminary model of the Fujinon XA55x9.5, a new generation of lens based on our popular XA50x9.5. Many of our customers who were considering the HA42x9.7 with stabilization are now giving strong consideration to the XA55x. With the built-in mounting bracket, and now with optical stabilization, it is a great, high-quality, medium distance, economical lens.

If we have whetted your appetite, you can learn more by watching videos on each of our new lenses on our YouTube channel.
