It’s the most wonderful time of the year…the 2014 NAB Show is almost upon us. This year’s show holds special meaning for us, as it marks FUJIFILM’s 80th anniversary, and 40 years for the Optical Devices Division (formerly known as FUJINON) in the U.S. To celebrate, several products will be making their NAB debut this year—among them, the Premier PL 14-35mm Cabrio wide-angle lens [ZK2.5x14] and the XA55x9.5 HDTV Telephoto Box Style lens.

The new XA55x9.5 telephoto zoom is designed for large venues that require tight shots from long distances, such as sports, concerts and other live events. This zoom “fills a sweet spot in our line of 2/3” studio/field lenses,” according to Thom Calabro, Director of Marketing and Product Development for the Optical Division of FUJIFILM. “With a focal length from 9.5 to 535mm [or 19.0 to 1050mm with a 2x extender], it gets the job done even in the most challenging environments.”

Like the XA50x9.5 before it, this lens is available with a built-in lens support bracket for direct mounting to an ENG-style camera, which eliminates that cost. The optical image stabilization is also built in, which helps the operator maintain stable close-up shots for long periods. A 16-bit encoder outputs zoom, focus position and other lens data – so it can easily combine CGI with live images.

The new PL 14-35mm Cabrio—the latest development in our popular Cabrio series—was designed with the latest customer feedback in mind, especially regarding focal length. We’ve expanded the focal length range since NAB 2013 to 14-35mm at T2.9, with 200-degree focus rotation As with all of our Cabrio lenses, the 14-35mm lens is lightweight and comfortable to use with today’s smaller 4K cameras.

Designed using the latest proprietary optical simulation software, the PL 14-35mm Cabrio lens offers exceptional optical performance in the center of the image and in the corners of the frame. One of our favorite features of this lens is its detachable digital servo drive, making it usable as a self-contained ENG-style lens or a cine style lens. The digital servo’s 16-bit encoding assures operators that all lens data output—including the position of the zoom, iris, and focus—is extremely accurate. When used without the drive, industry-standard cine motors can be fitted. The PL 14-35mm lens supports Lens Data System (LDS) and /i Technology metadata formats, and can be controlled using cinema industry standard wireless controllers, and existing FUJINON wired and wireless units. For shooters looking for a lightweight zoom that can be used as a handheld and to capture wide angles in tight spaces, this is it.

Both the PL 14-35mm wide-angle zoom and the XA55x are available now. If this has piqued your interest, just wait until you see what else we have in store! Only those who attend will find out, so be sure to visit us at booth #C7025 from April 7-10 see demos, evaluate our products, chat, ask questions, and more.
